Why Outsourcing is Critical to Internet Success

One of the reason I was able to increase my revenue so quickly was due to outsourcing. The cellphone website’s migration would have taken me at least 10-15 hours and probably 2 weeks of procrastination, because the work is tedious. I finally decided to outsource the task, and it was a very wise decision. The Romania student I outsourced to did a great job, and now I know exactly who to go for migrations and updates. I am training her to write reviews and update the website so it’ll get fresh content weekly. You’re probably wondering how much all this cost. For the migration: $54 base + $20 bonus = $74, I know, it’s sick :) But she didn’t have any ratings, so I took a chance on her. For the reviews and update, it’ll probably cost me about $6 a review. Something like that would take at least 1-2 hrs per article. You have to appreciate the power of the US dollar. This allows me to do other things like finding niche markets, learning new marketing methods, and strategizing on existing websites. Plus, I am a lazy ass and I tend to put things I hate doing off, so outsource allows me just to manage the projects I hate to do.

“If it weren’t for outsourcing, I’d never get anything done!”

For you newbies, a quick way to get started is to outsource your first website. Just know what you want and you can find someone to do it for you. I know this big internet guru who made millions and know nothing about how to build websites. He has to call his webmaster if he wants something changed. However, he’s a brilliant marketer. The point is, you can get things you don’t know oursourced and it’ll just accelerate your progress.

For me, I am a little more anal. I like to know how to do something before I outsource it. That way, I have a realistic expectation of how long things should take and how it could go wrong. However, I don’t plan to learn programming just so I can outsource it. I will need programming in the future, and I will outsource that. Once I find a good programmer or two or three, I’ll keep them! Build a relationship with them so you’ll be on their preferred customer list if not hiring them full time, but that’s based on how your level of business to support them.

Here are some good outsourcing resources.

RentAcoder.com - I have been using them exculsively. Anyone can sign up to bid, so the bids are generally cheaper than other sites. However, the quality of people are not always good. You’ll have to look at their rating carefully. I like to look for people just starting out, so they’ll do certain easy jobs practically free just to get a good rating.

Elance.com - I just signed up today. This is a professional freelance site. Bidders pay thousands of dollars to bid on auctions, so you know they’re serious about their business. As expected, their bids are usually a bit higher than RentACoder. If you want some quality work done that you can’t afford to screw up, I recommend this site.

Guru.com - I haven’t signed up for this site, but I have heard good things. You can find professionals in a varity of industry to help you on your different projects. I plan to check it out when I get my niche and need an expert to consult.

Case in point: For easy jobs that are hard to screw up and easy to check, I’d use Rentacoder and find a quality coder at a cheap price. For a major job, like ghostwriting an ebook (which could cost around $1k) you want to find a native english speaker who’s serious about writing. Elance would be my choice.

For people who just want to publish a website, but don’t want to actually make one. Check out rentacoder and place a bid. You don’t have any obligation to choose anyone. Just see how many bids flood in and talk to some coders to see if they can get the job done. You’ll be amazed how easy this whole process is. I often have thought about outsourcing my day job to India or Romania. “Oh, you need this margin analysis done? No problem!” Do almost nothing and get paid 75% of your salary, while some guy in India is working hard for you. That would be nice. :)
